What kind of pen/stylus do I need?

Squid can be used with a finger, passive stylus, or active pen (on compatible devices). Using an active pen allows for more natural handwriting and advanced functionality. Using a passive stylus is the same as using a finger, however, there are some special passive styli (only available for compatible devices) that have some additional functionality that is similar to an active pen, such as the DirectStylus.
