Google Workspace: Force Squid10 or Classic Squid
Squid10 is the next big update to Squid, check out our blog post to see what's new!
Squid10 includes a major redesign to Squid. During the transition from Classic Squid to Squid10, users can switch between the two user interfaces. We know change can be hard, especially when managing hundreds or thousands of users. If you'd like to ensure all your users are using the same interface, please follow the instructions below.
These instructions are for managed Chromebooks. If you have managed Android devices, please reach out to support.
In the Google Admin console, navigate to the App management screen.
If the above link doesn’t work, from the Google Admin console Home screen, go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers and select Squid from the list of apps.
- [Optional] Choose a subset of users for which you want to configure using the Organizational Units, Groups, and Users options on the left. By default, the entire OU should be selected.
- In the configuration panel on the right, enter ONE of the following three options under Managed configuration where it says “Enter a JSON value”:
{ "squid10": "squid10_only" }
- The user can only access Squid10 (they cannot switch back to Classic Squid){ "squid10": "classic_only" }
- The user can only access Classic Squid (they cannot switch to Squid10){ "squid10": "user_choice" }
(or remove the"squid10"
configuration option entirely) - The user can freely switch between Squid10 and Classic Squid
- Click Save in the bar at the top.
If you have any issues, please check out this Google help page under Install Android apps on ChromeOS devices > Step 3: (Optional) Apply managed configurations to an Android app. If that doesn’t answer your question, please reach out to us.
